Your battalion's on the march, there are snipers
around every corner and you've forgotten to pack your sandwhiches.
This is the grim reality of modern warfare. Now you can experience
it for yourself, as the battle-hardened troopers we all lovingly
call Cannon Fodder, cock their rifles, prime their grenades and
march off into battle once more. They won't all come back, but
that means more sarnies for the rest of us, so chin-up.
Three months have past since Jools, jops, Jon and
the rest of the Cannon Fodder troops returned from their tour
of duty. Thanks to some advice from an ex-S.A.S. soldier, the
squad has opted to leave the army and set themselves up as mercenaries.
Having got in touch with a middle-man, they make contact with
a wealthy Arabian gentleman who's had a few problems on the borders
of his country.
The troop decides to accept the gentleman's kind
offer of work and are soon flying out to the middle-east on a
private jet. After their arrival, they are shown to some very
nice quarters and are kitted out with shiny new weapons. But before
they ge ta chance to re-arrange their sock drawers, trouble flares
up on the border, and the chaps march off into action on their
first sortie.
However, all is not as it seems. having returned
from their second mission, they are kidnapped by some aliens (the
same ones who've got Elvis, Glenn Miller and Lord Lucan). It soon
transpires that these aliens are engaged in a war on their home
planet; a war that they are losing. They need a secret weapon,
something to swing the battle in their favour, someone who's a
better shot than Elvis. Having monitored the troops earlier performances,
they decide that they may be just what they're looking for. But
first they need to test them...
So, a rather bizarre plot, then. Cannon Fodder 2
is Cannon Fodder 1, with purple aliens. The troops must battle
through five different time zones, and fight medieval gangsters,
gangsters, middle east desert rats, and aliens.
The levels are harder, trickier, and cleverer, but
somehow, it doesn't feel right, taking these troopers from their
more typical war-zones, and it adds little to the original concept
(yes there are more vehicles, but they all have the same qualities
and manoeverability).
But, as they famously say. If it aint broke, don't
fix it!
